Unika Atma Jaya Earns International Recognition in WURI 2026 Rankings

Universitas Katolik Indonesia (Unika) Atma Jaya in Jakarta has earned international acclaim, securing a spot among the top 500 universities globally in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026. The announcement was made at National Chi Nan University (NCNU) in Taiwan on May 7, 2026.

This achievement underscores the university's commitment to strengthening its research and innovation ecosystem. Yanti, the Vice Rector for Innovation, Research, Cooperation, and Alumni, stated that this recognition inspires the university to continuously develop relevant, collaborative, and impactful research. Unika Atma Jaya also distinguished itself by ranking in the world's top 100 for two specific categories: Representative Research Project (C1) and Financial Impact-Driven Technology Transfer (C8).

WURI is a global ranking system that evaluates universities based on their contribution to providing real-world solutions for society and industry through innovation in education, research, technology, entrepreneurship, and social engagement. Yanti noted that this accomplishment demonstrates the capability of Indonesian higher education innovations to address global challenges.

"For Unika Atma Jaya, research does not stop at journals and publications; it must provide social impact and foster sustainable innovation," Yanti said. Category C1 focuses on long-term research with sustainable development impacts. Unika Atma Jaya's entry highlighted research on a tempeh mixture using sunflower seeds, soybeans, pumpkin seeds, and azuki beans, designed to enhance cognitive function in the elderly without compromising nutritional benefits.

Category C8 emphasizes ethical and responsible commercialization of research aligned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Unika Atma Jaya showcased an innovation in biopreservatives and feed additives based on bacteriophages for the food and aquaculture industries, aiming for both economic returns and social impact. This research has led to international scientific publications and patents, including a Simple Patent in Indonesia for the multi-seed tempeh.

Yanti expressed hope that this international recognition will foster greater cross-sector collaboration with industry, government, and global partners. "This is not the peak, but a starting point to continue innovating for a healthier, empowered, and sustainable Indonesia," she concluded.
