The United Kingdom has expressed its backing for the upcoming political talks between representatives of Venezuela's opposition and the ruling party. Chris Elmore, the UK's Under-Secretary for Latin America, conveyed this support via X, emphasizing that the dialogue could contribute to establishing a new institutional phase in the country. He highlighted the importance of advancing toward agreements to strengthen Venezuela's democratic system. "The United Kingdom celebrates the start of political talks in Venezuela. This is an important opportunity to strengthen democracy and lay the groundwork for a more stable and prosperous future that respects the will of the Venezuelan people," Elmore wrote. The British official's statement precedes the scheduled start of working groups on Saturday, August 1. These groups will include representatives from the 2015 National Assembly and a delegation led by Jorge Rodríguez. This initiative seeks to promote agreements focused on the country's institutional reorganization, such as the renewal of bodies like the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), with the goal of progressing towards future electoral processes. The initiative also has the support of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who views these conversations as part of Washington's efforts to encourage national reconciliation and political change in Venezuela.
