Universidad de Chile thrashes Santiago Wanderers in Copa Chile debut

Universidad de Chile began their Copa Chile campaign with a resounding 4-1 victory over Santiago Wanderers at the Estadio Nacional, securing an early lead in Group D.

The team, managed by Fabricio Coloccini, dominated the match from the outset. An own goal by Santiago Wanderers' Cristopher Valenzuela in the 21st minute opened the scoring for Universidad de Chile. Maximiliano Guerrero extended their lead just before halftime with a swift counter-attack in the 41st minute.

Santiago Wanderers managed to pull one back early in the second half through Marcos Camarda in the 46th minute. However, Universidad de Chile quickly reasserted their control, with Agustín Arce responding just two minutes later to restore their two-goal advantage. Ignacio Vásquez sealed the comprehensive victory with a precise finish in the 90th minute.

This win places Universidad de Chile in second position in their group with three points. Their next fixture is an away game against Unión La Calera on Wednesday, June 24. Santiago Wanderers, who remain on three points, will also face Unión La Calera next, on Sunday, June 28.
