University Aids Indonesian Women Farmers in Cassava Business Development

The Anjani Women Farmers Group (KWT Anjani) is leveraging its 7,800 square meter cassava farm to develop processed food products, but faces hurdles in production capacity, marketing, and financial management. To address these challenges, Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) has initiated a community service program aimed at bolstering the group's business operations.

Funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, UMB's program, conducted from August 3-4, 2026, offers crucial support in production technology, digital marketing, and financial management. KWT Anjani currently transforms cassava into popular items like getuk chips, tapioca flour, and mocaf flour, which are then sold to the public. The initiative seeks to significantly improve their production capabilities and overall business management.

Sri Marti Pramudena, the head of UMB's community service team, emphasized the program's goal to enhance KWT Anjani's efficiency through technology. The team has introduced new equipment, including a drying facility, a continuous sealer, a cassava starch press for tapioca production, and drying trays, all designed to streamline production and ensure more hygienic processing.

Digital marketing training is also a key component, with KWT Anjani learning to utilize platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This includes developing brand identity, logos, packaging, and effectively communicating product information online. Financial management training focuses on practical skills such as transaction recording, calculating the cost of goods sold, setting selling prices, and determining profits, moving beyond the group's previously simple record-keeping methods. Tri Wahyuni, the chair of KWT Anjani, expressed optimism that the program will boost production and broaden market access for their products, aiming for wider recognition of their getuk chips and tapioca flour.
