University of Engineering and Technology to Move All Students to Hoa Lac by 2029

More than 4,000 new students have begun their university careers at Hoa Lac, in the first intake at the University of Engineering and Technology to study there for all four years.

The university, part of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, says the move will continue with students admitted in 2027, 2028 and 2029. By 2029, all students are expected to study at the Hoa Lac campus, including those enrolled in postgraduate programs.

Rector Chử Đức Trình described the intake as the start of a new chapter. The campus includes practice rooms, laboratories and self-study spaces. The university has invested nearly 1 trillion dong in equipment in recent years and plans to transfer that equipment to Hoa Lac. About 20 practice rooms are already ready for students.

The university has been allocated 30 hectares at the site, but only one-sixth of the project has been completed so far. It also plans to work selectively with companies including FPT, VNPT, Samsung and LG to support internships for students interested in corporate research and development.

The university is helping first-year students settle near the campus. Students can choose dormitories or rented housing. Eligible K71 students will receive 500,000 dong, deducted from their first-semester tuition for the 2026-27 academic year. Students with full tuition exemptions will receive guidance on collecting the payment through their personal bank accounts. The university also plans to survey students facing financial hardship for scholarship support and said a large share of this year's students will receive scholarships under Decree 179.
