University President Becomes 'Love Song Prince,' Raps for Graduates

Graduates of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) received an unexpected and moving performance from their university president, Shen Meng-lu, at their farewell banquet on June 7. Instead of a formal address, President Shen transformed into a "love song prince," taking the stage with the orchestra, choir, and student union to perform a medley of well-known songs including "Encounter," "Concern," and "The Moon Represents My Heart."

During his performance, Shen surprised the audience by incorporating a self-penned rap. His lyrics offered powerful encouragement to the graduating class: "Go! Go write your own lives; NCKU is proud of you, this statement is never just politeness; The waves of society cannot block the magnetic field of dreams; Soaring eagles will eventually fly to the distance..." This heartfelt message resonated deeply with the students, who were unaware of the special performance beforehand.

Beyond the musical surprise, President Shen continued a tradition from the previous year by offering taxi fare subsidies. This initiative aims to ensure students could travel home safely after the celebratory dinner, preventing drunk driving. The farewell banquet, organized by the NCKU Student Union, was filled with laughter and emotion. It also featured creative student performances, including a humorous reenactment of a viral moment where a motorcyclist accidentally rode onto a stage during a New Year's Eve show.
