Up to 4.5 years in prison sought for Nasuh Mahruki after 'July 15' post

Prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence of up to four years and six months for Nasuh Mahruki, the former head of the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT). Mahruki was arrested on July 17 on charges of inciting hatred and contempt following a social media post he made regarding the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey.

The indictment, prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, details the accusations against Mahruki. The prosecution argues that his alleged offense was committed through press and broadcast media, and therefore requests an additional half-term increase in the sentence as stipulated by Article 218 of the Turkish Penal Code.
