UPDF Commander Praises Security Stakeholders for Karamoja Peace

Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) 3rd Infantry Division Commander Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma has commended security stakeholders for their role in stabilizing the Karamoja sub-region. Speaking at a security meeting in Karenga District, Sserunkuma highlighted the tangible benefits of peace, including the development of Kidepo International Airport, the establishment of new factories, and a surge in tourism.

"The peace dividends are already evident. Today, we are witnessing the establishment of Kidepo International Airport in Karenga District, new factories across Karamoja, and tremendous growth in tourism. This is all because of our collective effort, discipline, and dedication to serving our government. We must protect and consolidate these gains," he stated. He stressed the importance of proactive security measures to deter criminal activities and prevent any regression in the hard-won stability.

Maj Gen Sserunkuma also directed commanders to safeguard government development initiatives in Karamoja. He emphasized that the improved security environment has boosted the profile of Kidepo Valley National Park, enhancing its revenue generation through tourism. The commander further underscored the necessity of strong partnerships between security agencies, local leaders, and communities to effectively manage security dynamics and sustain the peace achieved under Operation Usalama Kwa Wote.
