'Urban Epoch' is the Theme of the 13th Arquitecturas Film Festival

The 13th Arquitecturas Film Festival is set to unfold in Porto, Portugal, from July 1 to 5, under the theme 'Urban Epoch.' This year's edition will showcase 33 films hailing from 22 different countries, offering diverse perspectives on contemporary urban life.

Festival director Paulo Moreira explained that the selected films "observe the contemporary city from different geographies, cultures, socioeconomic contexts, and perspectives." He added that the program "portrays urban spaces through multiple lenses, such as housing, memory, displacement, and future imaginaries." Moreira highlighted cinema's potential as a critical tool for rethinking territory and the challenges of collective living.

The festival's main venue will be the Batalha Centro de Cinema, with additional screenings and events hosted at locations like the Casa Comum of the University of Porto and the Circo de Ideias. The official selection includes 24 films spanning documentary, experimental cinema, and fiction. Notable entries include films focusing on urban changes driven by women in Seville, a virtual journey through Palestine, and the redevelopment of Seoul. The festival also features a Special Program Portugal, with seven films shot in various Portuguese cities, accompanied by debates and guided tours.
