Urgent call for blood donations at IPS Ingavi Hospital

The IPS Ingavi Surgical Specialties Hospital has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, highlighting a significant drop in contributions during the winter months. The hospital's blood bank is struggling to maintain adequate levels, jeopardizing the care of patients who depend on transfusions for critical procedures.

Dr. Herib Zaldívar, head of the Transfusional Medicine Service at IPS Ingavi, stressed the vital importance of voluntary donations. "A single donation can benefit up to three people and is fundamental to maintaining the necessary stock for daily care," he stated. Blood is an irreplaceable resource essential for patients undergoing complex surgeries, cancer treatments, transplants, and those experiencing complications during pregnancy or after accidents.

Under the slogan "This winter the drop of blood is sad... But you can change that story," the hospital aims to combat the seasonal decline in donations. Officials emphasize that while the weather may change, the need for blood remains constant. Donating blood is described as a safe, quick, and altruistic act that offers a new chance at life.

The blood bank is located on the 2nd floor, Block D, of the hospital. Donation hours are Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The hospital encourages the community to become regular, voluntary donors, noting that a few minutes of their time can be invaluable in saving a life.
