The Uruguayan Ministry of Economy and Finance is looking to hire an economist to bolster its institutional capacity in data analysis and market research. The role, based within the Commission for the Promotion and Defense of Competition (Coprodec), will focus on investigating anti-competitive practices and analyzing economic concentrations.

The selected candidate will work on a 12-month service contract, with the possibility of extension, and will be based in Coprodec offices, though travel may be required. The position offers a competitive salary of $112,000 (plus VAT) for a standard 40-hour work week, with remuneration values set for 2026.

Essential qualifications include a professional degree in Economics, a minimum of three years of experience in data analysis, and demonstrated knowledge of statistical packages and tools such as R, Python, Power BI, Stata, and Tableau. The ministry also values candidates with a master's degree in Economics or Data Science, or equivalent postgraduate studies. Additional professional experience in industrial organization, competition defense, economic regulation, or market research is also considered a plus, as are intermediate or advanced English language skills.

Key responsibilities will involve researching market competition, conducting data analysis for market investigations, and evaluating anti-competitive complaints and economic concentration requests. The role also requires systematizing and processing information for evaluation and ensuring its availability according to Coprodec guidelines.
