Uruguay’s Myszka apologizes after Emilio Shea suffers serious knee injury

Joaquín Myszka has apologized to Chile international Emilio Shea after a late tackle left the Chile XV player with a serious knee injury during a match against Uruguay in Talcahuano.

The incident occurred after Shea had released the ball. Myszka hit him directly on the right knee, prompting a confrontation between the two teams. Chile Rugby later reported that Shea suffered a high-grade ligament injury, preliminarily compatible with complete tears of the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament.

Myszka, a Uruguayan hooker, said he had decided to wait several days before speaking publicly so that tensions could settle. “I decided to let a few days pass so that everything could calm down and I could express myself with the calm and respect that the situation deserves,” he said in a social-media post.

He added: “When one makes a mistake, the only thing one can do is accept it, along with its consequences.” Myszka also said he had tried to contact Shea directly.
