Uruguay's President Orsi to meet party leaders before UN address

Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi is set to convene a meeting with leaders from various political parties on Thursday at Torre Ejecutiva. This gathering precedes his upcoming trip to New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting aims to foster dialogue among political factions before the president addresses the international community. Orsi is expected to deliver a speech during the General Debate, which runs from September 22 to 28. This platform will allow him to present Uruguay's positions and priorities on the global stage.

During the previous General Assembly in September 2025, Orsi positioned Uruguay as a host for negotiations and a promoter of dialogue networks. He emphasized the country's deep commitment to peace and respect, while also acknowledging the growing geopolitical tensions and conflicts worldwide. The upcoming session's theme focuses on revitalizing global cooperation, advancing Sustainable Development Goals, and promoting collective action for peace, dignity, and equality on a healthy planet.

Leaders from the National, Colorado, Independent, Frente Amplio, and Cabildo Abierto parties are expected to attend the meeting. The UN General Assembly serves as a crucial forum where world leaders articulate their perspectives on complex, interconnected global challenges.
