Uruguay to launch direct flights to Punta Cana, boosting tourism exchange

Uruguay is set to enhance its tourism ties with the Caribbean with the introduction of a direct flight connection to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Beginning in March 2027, the new route will operate three times a week, connecting Montevideo with the popular Dominican destination.

The service will be provided by the Dominican airline Arajet, a move that Uruguayan Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni, believes is crucial for deepening tourist exchange between the two nations. "We have a different tourist diversity. We have natural beauties like the Dominican Republic, different ones, ours. We have cold, we have heat," Menoni stated, emphasizing the unique appeal of Uruguay's offerings.

Menoni highlighted that Uruguay's distinct advantages lie in its natural rural settings and its gastronomy. Aeropuertos Uruguay commercial manager, Matías Carluccio, also emphasized the importance of strengthening Uruguay's global connections. He credited the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Tourism and various stakeholders for making the arrival of Arajet possible. The flights are scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, aiming to facilitate travel and encourage greater tourism flow.
