US acting Navy Secretary attends humanitarian cooperation program in Vietnam

Quang Tri, Vietnam – The Pacific Partnership - Pacific Friendship 2026 (PP-PF 26) program, a significant US humanitarian and disaster response initiative, has officially commenced in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Tri. This event marks a historic first, bringing together two major US humanitarian cooperation programs concurrently in Vietnam.

The PP-PF 26 program, which runs from June 22 to July 6, 2026, involves around 300 US military personnel, experts, and staff. They will participate in 25 activities across four main categories: humanitarian assistance and disaster preparedness, health, construction and repair, and community exchange. Preparatory activities began as early as May 9.

PP-PF 26 is a vivid symbol of cooperation, sharing, and community responsibility, contributing to strengthening people-to-people exchanges and consolidating the friendship between Vietnam and the US and international partners.

During the opening ceremony on June 22, Mr. Hoang Nam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, highlighted the program's significance, noting that 2026 also celebrates 31 years of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations. He described PP-PF 26 as a "vivid symbol of cooperation, sharing, and community responsibility," aimed at enhancing people-to-people exchanges and strengthening friendly relations.

Mr. Hung Cao, acting US Secretary of the Navy, expressed his honor at attending the event in his homeland. The program's presence in Quang Tri is seen as an acknowledgment of the province's international integration efforts, especially as it coincides with the province's "Festival for Peace 2026," further promoting messages of peace, cooperation, and development.
