US and Iran Intensify Attacks, Raising Risk of Regional War

Iran denounced an attack on a nuclear site under construction in its southwest on Sunday, as a new escalation with the United States intensified. The U.S. conducted additional bombings, and Iran launched missiles toward Jordan, once again jeopardizing regional stability.

The U.S. military reported that a soldier died in Iraq on Saturday during the controlled detonation of an Iranian drone, bringing the total U.S. military fatalities to 17 since the war began. A second soldier was injured but not seriously. Investigations continue into debris found after a previous attack in Jordan, where one service member remains missing.

The U.S. Central Command confirmed its eighth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian targets. Washington stated the offensive aimed to degrade Iran's ability to control the Strait of Hormuz and to "swiftly punish" the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a key power base in Iran that controls its ballistic missile arsenal.

Iran responded with multiple attacks, including missile and drone strikes against U.S. bases and targets in the Persian Gulf. Iranian state television reported that military facilities in Kuwait, including the Al-Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem air base, were hit. Kuwaiti authorities confirmed impacts on critical infrastructure, including a desalination plant, which caught fire after being attacked for the second consecutive day. Kuwaiti armed forces intercepted some projectiles but acknowledged damage to sensitive energy facilities.

The regional scope of the conflict was also evident in Bahrain, whose air defenses intercepted Iranian attacks. The U.S. Central Command stated that its forces completed precision strikes against Iranian military capabilities, showing video of fighter jets and Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from the sea. The operation was presented as direct retaliation for attacks that killed two U.S. service members in Jordan. The Pentagon reported over 420 injuries since the war began on February 28.
