US attacks Iran for ninth day as another soldier killed

The United States launched a new wave of strikes against Iran for the ninth consecutive day, escalating hostilities that have raised concerns over global shipping. US Central Command stated the strikes aimed to degrade Iran's capacity to attack commercial vessels navigating the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

The intensified conflict has led to increased American casualties, with three service members confirmed dead and more than 420 wounded since the fighting resumed. The latest death was reported in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone. Earlier, two service members died in Jordan, and one was reported missing in action.

Iran responded with its own military actions, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announcing a surprise strike against what it described as the "enemy's special operations headquarters" in Syria's Al-Tanf area. Iranian state TV also reported drone attacks on US military assets at Kuwait's Al-Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base, locations previously targeted by Iran in its week-long campaign against US assets and allies in the Gulf.

Kuwait's government reported that a desalination plant was attacked for the second day running, causing a fire and constituting a direct strike on vital civilian infrastructure. The ongoing hostilities have heightened worries about the flow of energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transport. Oil prices saw a significant jump, with Brent crude futures surpassing $90 a barrel.
