US-backed Project HOPE invests over $200,000 to rehabilitate Venezuelan health centers

The US humanitarian organization Project HOPE has allocated more than $200,000 to revitalize health centers across Venezuela. This initiative aims to significantly increase the capacity to serve hundreds of thousands of patients.

John Barrett, the US Chargé d'Affaires in Caracas, announced the investment and highlighted the delivery of essential primary care medical equipment to the emergency department at Salud Chacao in Caracas. He confirmed on X, formerly Twitter, that the funds for Venezuela's healthcare system receive backing from the Department of State.

Barrett linked these actions to Washington's broader strategy for Venezuela, stating that the assistance is intended to foster the country's sustained recovery. "We are betting on a lasting impact for Venezuela's economic recovery under the three-phase plan," Barrett said, referencing stabilization, recovery, and transition stages outlined by the Trump administration.

This effort comes as Venezuela's health system grapples with the aftermath of earthquakes on June 24, which caused infrastructure damage and heightened medical needs in affected regions. The quakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, resulted in at least 6,509 deaths according to official figures. The United Nations has also noted the severe challenges facing the Venezuelan healthcare system, exacerbated by years of resource constraints, supply shortages, and the departure of numerous health professionals.
