U.S. boxer Hannah Rapp, who recently vied for the World Boxing Council women's featherweight championship, died Saturday at the age of 26. Rapp was struck and killed by a motorist while cycling in Texas, according to authorities.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office in Texas stated that investigators arrested 31-year-old Charles Medina in connection with Rapp's death. Deputies booked Medina on a charge of manslaughter, which Texas law defines as recklessly causing a person's death. The sheriff's office indicated that the investigation into the "isolated" incident is active and ongoing, with no further details immediately available.

Rapp's death has prompted heartfelt tributes from within the professional boxing community. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman expressed deep sorrow, calling Rapp an "exceptional boxer" and an "invaluable member of our boxing family." He extended condolences to her loved ones, team, and supporters.

Medina remained in custody on Sunday morning, with jail records showing prior arrests for charges including deadly conduct by discharging a firearm, assault causing bodily injury, and reckless driving. The dispositions for those previous cases were not immediately available. If convicted of manslaughter in Rapp's death, Medina could face a prison sentence ranging from two to 20 years under Texas law.
