US chef travels halfway around the world to Quang Tri for eye surgery

In a remarkable display of determination and trust, American chef Gregory Wayne Bishop journeyed across the globe from Florida to Vietnam's Quang Tri province to undergo a critical eye surgery. Driven by the urgency to restore his failing vision, which was impacting his ability to cook and even perform simple tasks like driving, Bishop reached out to a Vietnamese acquaintance, Dr. Tran Anh Duong, head of the Ophthalmology Department at the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi. Dr. Duong, whom Bishop had met years prior during a medical delegation trip to Las Vegas, readily agreed to perform the surgery, understanding the critical nature of Bishop's situation.
