US Designates Palestine Action as Terrorist Organization

The United States has officially designated the United Kingdom-based group Palestine Action as a "terrorist organization," according to an announcement on Wednesday. This move is part of President Donald Trump's broader strategy, initiated upon his second term in 2025, to label what his administration terms "far-left" groups as terrorist entities.

The Department of the Treasury stated that Palestine Action "provided substantial support for an act of terrorism or for the support thereof." Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment on X, declaring that "far-left terrorism represents a grave threat to the United States and the West as a whole."

Founded in 2020, Palestine Action has been a vocal critic of Israel's actions, particularly following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack and Israel's subsequent military campaign in Gaza. The group's stated objective is to end "global complicity in Israel's genocidal and apartheid regime." Their activities have gained visibility, leading to thousands of arrests and a ban by the British government, which human rights groups have condemned as an attempt to criminalize dissent.

In addition to Palestine Action, the U.S. also designated the Italy-based collective Autistici/Inventati and the pro-Palestinian group Masar Badil as "terrorist" organizations on the same day. These designations carry significant implications, including the freezing of any assets these organizations may hold within the United States. Huda Ammori, a co-founder of Palestine Action, described the UK ban and the U.S. designation as a "wake-up call for anyone who cares about freedom of speech and civil liberties."
