US disrupts Chinese state-sponsored hacking tools

U.S. authorities have announced a significant disruption to a Chinese state-sponsored hacking network, seizing and disabling key internet tools used for cyberattacks against vital American institutions. The operation, a joint effort by the FBI and the Justice Department, targeted tools identified as 'QScan' and 'QT Router,' effectively crippling the Chinese hacking group's infrastructure.

The affected targets included high-profile organizations such as NASA, the Federal Reserve, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Senate, and the Departments of Energy, Justice, and Health and Human Services. The hackers also aimed their attacks at computer networks belonging to hospitals, universities, mobile service providers, power companies, financial institutions, and defense contractors.

U.S. officials confirmed that disabling these tools has completely undermined the operational capabilities of the Chinese hacking group. The group, operating under the name 'QTF,' is reportedly managed by Nanjing Xinjuyuan Network Technology, a company based in China.

Further investigations revealed that the 'QTF' hacking group has connections to the Chinese Ministry of Defense and the military, according to U.S. court documents. This revelation underscores the state-sponsored nature of the cyber threats emanating from China and highlights the ongoing efforts by U.S. agencies to counter such activities.
