US Forces Strike Vessel Attempting to Breach Iran Port Blockade

U.S. forces engaged a commercial vessel after it attempted to violate a blockade of Iranian ports, the U.S. military announced. The Panama-flagged vessel, identified as the Villa Nova, had its navigation systems disabled before a U.S. Navy helicopter fired two missiles at its engine room.

The U.S. military stated that its forces have redirected 55 vessels, disabled three ships, and boarded two others that attempted to breach the blockade. Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported ongoing activity by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. forces, however, facilitated the passage of 42 vessels through the strategic waterway during the same period.

Iranian officials have stipulated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States agrees to a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, ends the ongoing conflict, and releases Iran's frozen assets. A spokesperson for the IRGC also issued a warning that any renewed threats against Iran could lead to attacks on global internet infrastructure and U.S. electricity grids.

Despite the heightened tensions, the U.S. Energy Department reported that 20 million barrels of oil departed the Persian Gulf on Sunday, a volume exceeding the daily average recorded before the conflict began.
