US government allows limited release of Anthropic's Mythos AI model after security review

The U.S. government has granted Anthropic limited permission to release its advanced Mythos AI model to specific companies and organizations, reversing an export ban imposed earlier this month due to national security concerns. This decision comes after Anthropic engaged with the U.S. government to address the risks associated with its "Covered Models."

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick informed Anthropic in a letter dated Friday that "appropriate safeguards are in place to permit certain trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 Model." However, the permission does not extend to Fable, a less powerful version of Mythos. Anthropic confirmed receiving the notice and is working to provision access for the approved group of cyber defenders and infrastructure providers.
