It follows a similar incident just a week prior, where an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot a Mexican man in Texas. Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau confirmed on Facebook that a shooting involving ICE had taken place and resulted in a fatality.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots as ICE agents surrounded a white sedan. The Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition and Presente Maine identified the victim as a Colombian national authorized to work in the US, vowing to hold the administration accountable.

I understand, based on a conversation with Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, that the victim was the subject of an ICE arrest warrant over his immigration status.

Senator Angus King of Maine indicated that the victim was reportedly the subject of an ICE arrest warrant related to his immigration status. He called for a transparent investigation, noting that the agents involved may not have been wearing body cameras. Protesters gathered near the scene, expressing anger and demanding answers about the death. Biddeford Mayor Liam LaFountain acknowledged the fear and uncertainty within the community, stating that residents deserve clear answers.
