US immigration agents' planned shock gloves spark abuse fears

Plans to equip US immigration enforcement agents with electric shock gloves have ignited fears of potential abuses, with critics arguing the force is already over-zealous and under-trained. Representative Maxwell Frost voiced strong opposition, calling the $20 million expenditure on the devices for "masked, lawless goons" a misuse of taxpayer money and demanding that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) be stopped.

As if assaulting people and shooting people in the streets wasn’t enough. Now, they’re spending $20 million of YOUR taxpayer dollars on painful electric shock gloves for their masked, lawless goons.

ICE has faced scrutiny for several fatal shootings during enforcement operations, including two American citizens in Minnesota earlier this year. Concerns have also been raised about the aggressive tactics employed by agents in apprehending migrants and a perceived lowering of training standards for new recruits. The proposed purchase of the gloves, known as the G.L.O.V.E. (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter), is part of a $10 to $20 million investment by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for what are described as "distraction and de-escalation" tools.

DHS defended the plan, stating that ICE is "constantly assessing the needs of our officers in the field to ensure they have the tools and equipment necessary to safely arrest and remove criminal illegal aliens from our country." They added that any technology utilized is subject to careful consideration and review to ensure compliance with law enforcement policies and standards.

However, former acting ICE director John Sandweg expressed alarm, particularly regarding the deployment of this technology without adequate training. He warned of the potential for misuse against vulnerable individuals, suggesting it could easily be employed against someone offering only mild resistance while being separated from their children, especially if they pose no real threat.
