JDF soldier charged after ammunition found in knapsack

A 30-year-old member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) faces charges after ammunition was discovered in his possession. Javaughn Howard, also known as ‘Jay,’ who serves with the JDF’s Engineer Regiment and resides in Portmore, St. Catherine, has been charged with unauthorized possession of ammunition.

The incident occurred on the evening of August 10. Detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, acting on a search warrant, conducted an operation along Hamilton Drive in Gregory Park, St. Catherine. During this operation, they searched a knapsack belonging to Howard.

Authorities allege that three rounds of 5.6 caliber ammunition were found inside the knapsack. Howard, who was present at the location, was arrested on suspicion of the offense. Following a question-and-answer session with investigators, he was formally charged.
