Omar explains that although an informal ceasefire is ongoing, the US and Iran differ on the sequencing of key issues for peace. Washington seeks to prioritize Iran's nuclear program, whereas Tehran urges discussions on economic matters and the easing of sanctions. Iran insists that a condition for peace is the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, a point considered strategically vital by the country and its Revolutionary Guard.

The analyst also points to the upcoming midterm elections in the United States as a potential factor influencing President Donald Trump's actions. Trump appears to be attempting to de-escalate tensions, suggesting a deal is close and that Iran is willing to negotiate. This approach might be aimed at bolstering his popularity, as ongoing conflict does not generally enhance a president's standing. Losing congressional support could have significant domestic political consequences for Trump, potentially even leading to impeachment proceedings, though Omar suggests such an action would likely not succeed.
