US Launches New Attacks on Iran

The United States has carried out new attacks on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard after renewed assaults on vessels trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command said.

Explosions were heard in the major port city of Bandar Abbas, in Sirik near the strait, and on Qeshm island, Iran’s state news agency Fars reported, according to TT.

The latest attacks on Iranian vessels appeared to have taken place overnight, when several ships attempted to pass through the waterway around midnight, maritime sources said. Among them, a Liberia-flagged vessel was reportedly struck by three rockets near Oman, in the southern part of the strait, the Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported.

Iran has previously demanded that ships crossing the strait use a more northerly route. The US military said its strikes followed the renewed attacks by the Revolutionary Guard on shipping in the waterway.
