US-led security dialogue in Bahrain strengthens regional defense cooperation

Senior defense officials from 12 Middle Eastern nations convened in Bahrain for a regional security dialogue aimed at bolstering defense cooperation and ensuring maritime security. Hosted by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the Strategic Allied Military Dialogue brought together representatives to reaffirm their commitment to the free flow of commerce through the critical Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper emphasized the United States' continued partnership with regional allies, stating that the discussions highlighted a shared dedication to security and stability. The region benefits from a sophisticated air and missile defense umbrella operated jointly by the U.S. and its partners. A new Middle Eastern Air Defense coordination cell was established in January to enhance information sharing and threat response.

The dialogue was notable for including military leaders from Syria and Lebanon for the first time in a U.S.-led regional defense forum. Bahraini Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Theyab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi addressed the region's dynamic geopolitical landscape, influenced by Iran's actions, and stressed the need for comprehensive solutions based on collective resolve.
