US military faces critical shortage of advanced missiles in Europe, sources warn

The US military's supply of advanced air defense missiles in Europe has been significantly depleted, according to two military sources cited by AP. The most concerning shortage involves Patriot missiles, which are crucial for intercepting threats such as Russian ballistic missiles.

One source within the US forces in Europe described the situation as dire, stating that there are insufficient missiles to counter a large-scale ballistic missile attack. Even a single such attack could pose significant difficulties for European defenses. The sources indicate that the missile stockpiles have dwindled due to the ongoing US military operations in Iran, where missiles have been redeployed to counter drone and missile threats, as well as through equipment donations to Ukraine.

Despite these warnings, President Donald Trump has publicly denied any shortage of missiles. However, European intelligence agencies reportedly see no signs of an imminent Russian military attack on NATO countries. Earlier in the week, CIA Director John Ratcliffe reportedly visited Russia, with sources suggesting the purpose was to caution Moscow against attacking NATO members.

In response to the perceived need, President Trump has ordered US defense contractors to increase production. He has also reportedly pledged to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Ukraine will be allowed to manufacture its own Patriot missiles.
