US Missile Stocks Depleted, Trump's Iran Threats Questioned

The United States' arsenal of high-precision missiles and military equipment has dwindled significantly after several months of conflict with Iran, casting doubt on President Donald Trump's threats to launch a major offensive against the Islamic Republic.

According to two sources cited by Reuters, the US has nearly exhausted its supply of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). These long-range missiles are crucial US assets, enabling precise attacks from a distance without exposing fighter jets to air defense systems.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for military operations in the Middle East, has been forced to replenish its surface-to-surface missile stocks by drawing from other operational zones. This situation has prompted the Pentagon to consult with strategists and former military officials to evaluate the best options for confronting Iran should the conflict escalate.

Despite Trump's threats to increase military pressure, some developments suggest the US president is increasingly desperate to reach an agreement with Tehran to end the conflict. Simultaneously, Trump appears keen to secure a resolution without appearing to concede to Iran.

While the Trump administration has repeatedly claimed Iran's air defense systems were destroyed, Middle East Eye and other media outlets report that Iran has received new air defense systems from China and Russia. The conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran began on February 28 with joint attacks on Iran. Although a ceasefire was brokered in June through an Islamabad memorandum of understanding, fighting reignited throughout the summer.
