US Open: Liang En-shuo exits women's doubles in first round as Chan Hao-ching prepares for Williams sisters

Taiwan's Liang En-shuo and Japan's Shuko Aoyama suffered a first-round upset in the 2026 US Open women's doubles, losing 6-1, 6-4 to Ingrid Neel of Estonia and Mexico's Giuliana Olmos.

The 11th seeds had reached the semifinals at both the French Open and Wimbledon, but could not repeat that run in Flushing Meadows. Their opponents had also lost to them in Cincinnati last month, making the New York defeat a reversal of that result.

Neel and Olmos broke serve in the second game and again late in the opening set. The second set featured breaks by both teams, but Liang and Aoyama surrendered a decisive break in the ninth game and lost in straight sets.

Other Taiwanese players will continue their campaigns in New York, including fourth seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko, Wu Fang-hsien and Japan's Miyu Kato, and men's doubles player Ho Cheng-wei with Brazil's Marcelo Demoliner.

The next major local focus will be Chan Hao-ching and Australia's Maya Joint. The 14th seeds are scheduled to open on Arthur Ashe Stadium at 7 a.m. Taiwan time on Saturday against the legendary home pair Venus Williams and Serena Williams.
