President Donald Trump has demanded a review of the scientific reference manual used by federal judges in climate change litigation, asserting that the document contains "discredited" information leading to significant national losses. Trump declared on Truth Social that the nation's federal judges require "facts and science, not political and false climate science."

Trump issued an order for federal officials responsible for suspension and exclusion to review this conduct, although the specific "conduct" he wished to be investigated remained unclear. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Earlier this year, the U.S. federal judiciary removed a chapter on climate change from the latest edition of its scientific evidence reference manual. This action followed arguments from Republican state attorneys general who claimed the chapter was biased against fossil fuel companies. The Federal Judicial Center, the research arm of the judiciary, had included the chapter as part of a long-planned update to the manual, first released in December.

Judges rely on this manual when evaluating scientific testimony. The chapter in question, authored by Jessica Wentz and Radley Horton of Columbia Law School, was intended to "assist judges in evaluating the admissibility and weight of expert testimony and documentary evidence relating to climate science." The Federal Judicial Center developed the manual in collaboration with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
