US ready to support ASEAN's long-term energy security, Deputy Secretary Landau says

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau reaffirmed America's commitment to ASEAN nations, emphasizing the region's rapid development and its importance to U.S. economic interests. Speaking at the ASEAN Future Forum in Vietnam, Landau noted that over 6,000 American companies operate across ASEAN, with trade and investment supporting 625,000 jobs in the United States.

Landau stressed the critical need for energy security, particularly in light of current global pressures. He stated that the U.S., a major energy producer, is ready to assist ASEAN with long-term energy security and resilience through exports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The U.S. also aims to collaborate on nuclear power and expanding ASEAN's power grids to ensure reliable, affordable, and secure energy access.

He expressed a desire to boost U.S. exports and investment in the region, while welcoming investments into the U.S. He also anticipated that the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework would enhance the economic future for both the U.S. and ASEAN.

He also welcomed Vietnam's role and affirmed U.S. support for a strong, independent, and prosperous Vietnam, noting that bilateral relations benefit both sides and bolster regional security and stability.
