Andy López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced that the United States has revoked his visa. He shared the news via an Instagram letter addressed to President Donald Trump, stating that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Christopher Landau were responsible for the decision.

This marks another instance of the Trump administration applying similar measures to figures associated with Mexico's ruling Morena party. López Beltrán's announcement follows previous visa cancellations for other party members.

Christopher Landau, the current U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, has a history of using social media for notable pronouncements. In 2025, he humorously referred to his "visa-revoking superpower" in response to reports about former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's alleged involvement in a plan to perpetuate Chavismo in Venezuela. Landau also previously ordered the cancellation of Mexican official Melissa Cornejo's visa due to a "vulgar post" on X criticizing U.S. visa cancellations for those supporting migrant protests.

Landau, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico during Trump's first term, played a role in ratifying the USMCA trade agreement, protecting border trade and supply chains during the pandemic, and reducing illegal migration. He is a Harvard-educated lawyer with expertise in Latin American studies and fluent in Spanish, having spent part of his childhood in Paraguay.
