US Senate Approves War Powers Resolution Against Iran Military Action

The U.S. Senate has passed a war powers resolution aimed at blocking military action against Iran, a move supported by four Republican senators. The resolution, which passed with a 50-48 vote, reflects increasing concerns among lawmakers regarding the ongoing conflict and a deal President Donald Trump negotiated to end it.

This decision marks the first time the Senate has approved such a resolution. While largely symbolic and not legally binding, it underscores the growing unease within both the House and Senate concerning the war and Trump's strategy. The House of Representatives had previously passed a similar resolution.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer voiced strong criticism, stating that Americans have paid the price for "Trump's historic blunder in Iran." He predicted the conflict would be remembered as one of America's worst foreign policy endeavors.

The four Republican senators who supported the resolution were Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Rand Paul, and Bill Cassidy. The absence of Senators Mitch McConnell and Dave McCormick, both Republicans, contributed to the Democrats' success in passing the measure.

The Senate's vote occurs as the Pentagon requests $80 billion from Congress, largely for the Iran war, to replenish munitions and stockpiles. President Trump is expected to meet with Republican senators soon, following Vice President JD Vance's diplomatic efforts with Iran.
