US Senator Mitch McConnell released from rehab centre after fall in June

Longtime US Senator Mitch McConnell has been released from a rehabilitation center, marking a step in his recovery from a fall and pneumonia. The 84-year-old Republican from Kentucky, who previously served as Senate majority leader, plans to continue his intensive physical therapy regimen at home.

Senator McConnell stated that he will remain engaged with his staff and colleagues on important Senate business during this period. He has been out of public view since mid-June, when he was hospitalized after a fall at home. His office later disclosed that the fall occurred in mid-June, causing him to be briefly unconscious. While hospitalized, he developed pneumonia and received antibiotic treatment.

McConnell, who currently chairs the Senate Rules Committee, has maintained contact with his legislative staff and Senate colleagues regarding current issues. His extended absence, during which his office released limited public information and photographs, has drawn calls for greater transparency and fueled speculation about his health.

Amidst these concerns, the senator has experienced episodes where he appeared to freeze while speaking to journalists on Capitol Hill, requiring assistance from aides.
