US State Dept. sanctions Iranian military activities, fuel export in Operation Economic Outcast

The United States has implemented a significant sanctions package targeting Iran's military activities, cyber operations, and illicit fuel exports, aiming to curb the regime's destabilizing influence in the region. The State Department announced the action, which targets multiple entities, individuals, and vessels facilitating Iran's malign behavior.

Today, the United States took sweeping action against multiple entities, individuals, and vessels enabling the Iranian regime’s destabilizing activities.

According to a statement from U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the measures are designed to disrupt Iran's military and proliferation activities, procurement schemes, malicious cyber operations, and illicit oil trade. The sanctions specifically target Iranian military officials responsible for procuring weapons and directing attacks against U.S. service members and regional partners. Additionally, Iran-based entities involved in intelligence gathering for targeting U.S. forces and allies, as well as a procurement ring supplying Iran’s military and missile programs, are included in the sanctions.

Among the designated entities are DadeNegar Startup Studio and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Cyber-Electronic Command (IRGC-CEC). DadeNegar was sanctioned for using commercial Chinese satellite imagery to aid Iran's military in targeting U.S. forces and bases in the Middle East. The IRGC-CEC was targeted for obtaining information about U.S. forces and bases used to support Iran’s targeting of U.S. assets.

The US will continue to disrupt, expose, and dismantle Iran’s military and proliferation activities, procurement schemes, malicious cyber operations, and illicit oil trade that sustains the regime’s malign behavior.

The sanctions also extend to seven individuals accused of directing conventional weapons use against U.S. forces. These include members of Iran's Supreme National Council, IRGC commanders, and officials from the country's defense ministry. Notably, former Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Council Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr was targeted for advocating for Iran's continued support of its "Axis of Resistance."
