The United States is escalating its economic pressure campaign against Iran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent outlining a strategy to inflict "crippling economic pressure." The announcement comes six months into a conflict with Iran, characterized by stalled peace talks and Tehran's disruption of traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. Treasury Department detailed that expanded secondary sanctions would target Iran's digital asset, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping sectors. New sanctions have been imposed on 60 individuals, companies, and vessels accused of aiding Iran in generating oil revenue, acquiring weapons, and conducting cyber operations. These entities are located globally, including in the UAE, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and Europe.
