US VP JD Vance and Second Lady Welcome Fourth Child

U.S. Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, joyfully welcomed their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday. The Vice President shared the happy news on X, expressing his excitement and confirming that both Usha and the baby are healthy and doing well. The couple's three older children are reportedly thrilled to meet their new baby brother.

This significant event marks a historic moment in American politics, as it is the first time in modern history that a sitting Vice President has had a child while in office. The last known instance of a vice presidential family welcoming a child during their term was in 1870, when Schuyler Colfax Jr., Vice President under Ulysses S. Grant, and his wife Ellen had their son, Schuyler Colfax III.

The Vance family, married since 2014, are already parents to two sons, Ewan (9) and Vivek (6), and a daughter, Mirabel (4). The addition of Alec Neel Vance expands their family to six.

In an effort to provide a greater sense of normalcy for their children, the family of six is reportedly leasing a property in rural northern Virginia. While the Vice President will still maintain his official residence at the Naval Observatory, the family intends to spend more time in the quieter, private setting of Middleburg. This move aims to offer a more traditional upbringing for the Vance children away from the constant public scrutiny associated with Washington D.C.
