Uzair Baloch's Brother Critically Injured in Karachi Shooting

Zubair Baloch, the brother of the incarcerated leader of the defunct People's Amn Committee, Uzair Baloch, was critically wounded in a targeted shooting in Karachi's Lyari area on Thursday evening. Police confirmed that Zubair, 40, was shot multiple times on main Chakiwara Road, sustaining injuries to his chest and abdomen.

Two passersby were also injured in the attack and were transported to Civil Hospital Karachi. According to South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza, Zubair Baloch had been arrested in seven criminal cases in 2012 and was released in January 2025. He was reportedly sitting outside his residence when armed motorcyclists opened fire and fled the scene.

Adding a layer of complexity, a local social activist, speaking anonymously, mentioned that Zubair had recently joined a "political party" and displayed its flags in the area. Rumors are circulating in Lyari about the return of gangsters who had previously fled abroad, raising fears of a potential resurgence of past gang violence following the US-Iran war.

This incident occurs while Uzair Baloch himself faces ongoing legal battles. Earlier in March, an anti-terrorism court rejected his bail applications in seven cases, including murder and possession of explosives. Uzair was previously convicted of espionage by a military court in April 2020 and sentenced to 12 years in jail.
