Uzbekistan, Afghanistan launch 'Garden of Friendship' in Faryab province

Afghanistan has launched the 'Garden of Friendship' project in Faryab province, a significant agricultural initiative supported by Uzbekistan. The project, inaugurated on July 28 during a visit by an Uzbek government delegation, aims to enhance modern horticultural practices and increase fruit production in the region.

The 60-hectare site in Khan Char Bagh district will feature 40,000 fruit trees. To ensure efficient water use and irrigation, the project includes the installation of a drip irrigation system and the construction of an 8,000-cubic-meter reservoir. These features are designed to provide a reliable water supply, crucial for the success of the orchards.

Officials from Uzbekistan's Agriculture Ministry and the Agricultural Development Agency, along with local authorities from Faryab province and Khan Char Bagh district, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The initiative is expected to strengthen agricultural cooperation between the two neighboring countries. Uzbekistan has also previously considered importing agricultural products from Afghanistan to help stabilize food prices within its capital.
