Uzbekistan Wins One Silver, Three Bronze Medals at International Olympiad in Informatics

The national team of Uzbekistan achieved significant success at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2026), earning one silver and three bronze medals. This year marked a historic occasion as Tashkent hosted the prestigious event for the first time, bringing together bright young minds from August 9 to 16.

The strong performance of Uzbekistan’s youth among the world’s strongest young programmers creates a solid foundation for achieving even greater results on the international stage and will serve as a major motivation for thousands of young people in our country.

High school students from over 90 countries competed, tackling challenges in problem analysis, algorithm development, programming, and testing. The competition structure included two five-hour rounds, each featuring three algorithmic problems, with a maximum possible score of 600 points. A total of 368 students participated in this rigorous academic contest.

Jakhonali Khaydaraliev, a ninth-grade student from the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi School, clinched the silver medal with an impressive score of 303.48 points. The bronze medals were awarded to Timur Kadirbergenov (Presidential School in Nukus), Ulug’bek Rakhmatullaev (Presidential School in Namangan), and Jahongir Shoh Avazkhonov (Presidential School in Namangan), who scored 295.79, 288.58, and 285.97 points, respectively. Sardor Salimov also received an Honorable Mention.

It's fitting that IOI is hosted in Uzbekistan, the homeland of Al-Khwarizmi, the father of algebra whose name became the word 'algorithm'.

The Ministry of Digital Technologies highlighted the strong performance of Uzbekistan's youth, stating it creates a solid foundation for future international achievements and serves as a major motivation for thousands of young people nationwide. The overall winner of IOI 2026 was Qiwen Xu from China, who received the Grand Prize. Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who noted that many of his company's employees are IOI medalists, announced rewards for the winners and praised Uzbekistan for hosting the event in the homeland of Al-Khwarizmi, the father of algebra.
