Valencia team bus leaves Mestalla under police escort after 5-0 defeat

Valencia’s team bus left Mestalla through an unusual exit under police escort after supporters protested the club’s 5-0 defeat to Barcelona. The result left Valencia bottom of the Spanish league with one point after four rounds.

About 2,000 fans gathered outside the stadium’s presidential box on Avenida de Suecia after the match. Many then moved to the Joan Reglà entrance, where they shouted at players on the bus. A National Police van led the vehicle through the crowd.

Supporters had already protested when the bus arrived before the match. Inside the stadium, they directed whistles and chants against club president Kiat Lim and his father, owner Peter Lim. Players and coach Carlos Corberán were also booed at the start of the match, while chants including “Peter, leave now” were aimed at the directors’ box.

Members of the Curva Nord entered in the 19th minute, a reference to the club’s founding in 1919, chanting an insult directed at Peter Lim. The National Police said there were no arrests, but officers issued six reports identifying people and proposing sanctions under the Sports Law.

Security for the match included riot police, canine teams, underground and environmental units, the provincial information brigade, an air unit, bomb disposal specialists and mounted police.
