Valle governor urges economic reactivation to rebuild after earthquake

Valle Governor Dilian Francisca Toro emphasized that rebuilding efforts after the August 10 earthquake will be futile without a strong focus on economic reactivation. Speaking at a meeting with President Abelardo De La Espriella and Mayor Alejandro Eder in Cali, Toro stated that reconstructing the social fabric is as crucial as rebuilding physical infrastructure.

"If we don't achieve economic reactivation, it will be difficult to rebuild," Toro warned the audience. She highlighted the importance of supporting citizens' incomes to ensure a sustainable recovery for the region.

To kickstart this economic recovery, Governor Toro announced an initial budget of 20 billion pesos dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses. She called for co-financing from the Ministry of Commerce and collaboration with the Cali Mayor's office and the Cali Chamber of Commerce to expand the aid's reach.

President De La Espriella responded promptly to the governor's request, halting the proceedings to issue immediate executive orders. He instructed his advisors to communicate with the Minister of Commerce to expedite the co-financing process, demonstrating a commitment to swift action. The president also noted that the minister was currently abroad but assured that the matter would be resolved quickly.
