Valtteri Bottas Has Option for Third Cadillac F1 Season, Sources Say

Reliable sources within the Formula 1 paddock suggest that Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas holds an option for a third season with the Cadillac team. This potential extension would secure his F1 presence through 2027, with a possibility for an additional year.

Bottas, who turns 37 in late August, has endured a challenging period, having not scored championship points since October 2023 in Qatar. He currently ranks 20th in the drivers' standings, with teammate Sergio Perez slightly behind him. The Cadillac team itself has struggled, largely competing at the back of the grid.

His current contract with Cadillac includes a 2+1 year structure, meaning his continued participation hinges on meeting specific performance criteria outlined in the agreement. This situation places pressure on both Bottas and Perez, as their contract renewals depend on demonstrating sufficient performance throughout the current season.

Despite the team's struggles, the driver market currently lacks top-tier talent, which could work in Bottas's favor. He previously enjoyed a successful stint with Mercedes, winning five constructors' championships. However, his subsequent move to Sauber, now racing as Cadillac, has been less fruitful. Bottas himself acknowledged some progress in race pace compared to immediate rivals in recent races.
