Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Reaches 6,509 Two Months Later

The official death toll from devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela two months ago has climbed to 6,509, authorities announced Monday. This figure represents an increase of 71 fatalities compared to the previous week's report.

Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, stated that medical facilities have treated 226,696 individuals. This indicates a significant rise in the number of patients attended to since August 17, when the figure stood at 140,338.

Regarding infrastructure, Rodríguez reported that 335 rehabilitated housing units have been delivered. However, a total of 60,785 residences have been inspected, with 11,001 of them identified as having "high-risk" damage.

Medical centers have treated 226,696 people.

Rescue teams have cleared approximately 600,790 tons of debris. Despite these efforts, official figures for the number of missing persons remain unavailable. Search operations for bodies are primarily concentrated in La Guaira state, one of the areas most severely affected by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes.

Previously, on August 4, the governor of La Guaira reported that families had listed at least 1,579 individuals as unaccounted for.
