Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 2,954

The devastating earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela last month have claimed the lives of 2,954 people, with an additional 16,592 individuals injured, according to the country's Ministry of Communication and Information. The powerful seismic event, comprising two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude just 39 seconds apart on June 24, has left a significant trail of destruction.

Authorities reported that 6,462 people have been rescued since the twin tremors hit. The disaster damaged 856 buildings and caused 190 structures to collapse. In response, a massive relief operation was launched, involving 3,281 international rescue workers and nearly 29,600 Venezuelan personnel dedicated to rescue, recovery, and reconstruction efforts.

Since the initial earthquakes, the region has been subjected to 942 aftershocks, adding to the ongoing challenges faced by survivors and rescue teams. The scale of the disaster underscores the vulnerability of the region to seismic activity and the immense task of recovery and rebuilding.
