Venezuela housing plan aids over 2,000 post-earthquake victims

Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that a government housing initiative implemented after devastating earthquakes on June 24 has provided benefits to over 2,000 individuals this week. The plan encompasses the delivery of new housing units and the completion of repairs on damaged structures.

Rodríguez stated that the beneficiaries received either newly constructed homes or were able to return to their repaired residences. The earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, significantly impacted the nation, leaving at least 41,624 homes affected, over 6,000 dead, and more than 16,000 injured, according to official reports.

Beyond constructing state-provided housing, the government is facilitating access to financing for affected citizens. Public and private banks will offer loans for home purchases, with subsidies covering 80% for homes up to $70,000 and 50% for those valued between $70,000 and $100,000.

Additionally, the Venezuelan Parliament has approved a new rental law aimed at stimulating the real estate market post-earthquakes. Rodríguez confirmed signing this law to encourage new housing units to enter the rental market. The government is also actively repairing over 13,000 homes damaged across the seven states most affected by the seismic events.
